New Faculty: Melissa Frazier

We are fortunate to have in the department this year Melissa Frazier, who's joined us as a visiting assistant professor.

Melissa just moved down the coast from Santa Cruz where she spent a year as visiting assistant professor. She did her graduate work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her main research interests are phonology and phonetics, with a focus on suprasegmental properties of speech. She is especially interested in Yucatec Maya, and she hopes to continue her research on that language while she is here as there are many speakers in this area. She'll be teaching a variety of phonology courses this year - her seminar this fall will look at the phonology-morphology interface in OT. When she's not doing linguistics, she likes to knit, watch movies, and do outdoorsy things.
